AI makes applying for jobs easier, but how do you choose the right candidate? | EAE Madrid Alumni Connect
Nadya Semenova, a graduate of EAE Madrid and the team from Shakers discussed how artificial intelligence is changing recruitment
At EAE Madrid's Alumni Connect, Nadya Semenova and the Shakers team explored how AI streamlines the process of reviewing job applications and the criteria that enable recruitment teams to decide which candidates are the best fit for a role.
Artificial intelligence enables professionals to tailor a CV and submit a job application in less time. For jobseekers, this makes applying for positions easier. For companies, it means reviewing more applications and identifying which candidates meet their team's needs. This challenge was at the heart of the latest Alumni Connect event, organized by the EAE Madrid Alumni community.
Ramón Abella, the President of EAE Alumni, opened the event by highlighting the value of students staying connected to the School after completing their studies. "You can make so many connections, and that's something the School gives you for life," he said, encouraging attendees to meet professionals from other fields. Abella highlighted that the EAE Alumni community now includes over 80,000 members.
More applications and less trust in recruitment
The following talent professionals took part in the presentation and round table:
- Nadya Semenova, EAE graduate and lecturer, HR Tech Expert and Talent Strategy Consultant
- Eduardo García - Garzón, Head of AI at Shakers
- Juanita Ferrer, EAE graduate and People & Culture Specialist at Shakers

The discussion explored how, by making it easier to submit applications, AI can increase the number of candidates applying for positions that do not match their profiles, further undermining trust between applicants and employers. Jobseekers who receive no response may end up applying for roles that are poorly matched to their experience, while companies spend more time reviewing applications that do not meet their requirements. The fact that the same role can have different job titles also makes it harder to identify suitable candidates from the outset.
AI helps screen applications, but people make the decisions
The speakers explained that AI can speed up the review of applications and help identify which candidates warrant closer consideration, while the final decision remains in the hands of the recruitment team. They also emphasized the importance of protecting sensitive data and informing candidates when AI is used in the recruitment process.
Specialized talent for specific projects
Shakers presented its model for connecting companies with specialized professionals and introduced the concept of fractional work, a growing trend that allows senior professionals to divide their time between several projects or companies, in a capacity similar to that of an advisor.
Following the round table, attendees continued the conversation over a networking cocktail reception. The event also featured an activity organized by EAE Ambassadors, an initiative in which community members help promote the School's activities.
